Dual-head means one charger has two separate charging cables/connectors (note: typically still single output at a time, switched manually – not simultaneous charging). Its main value: for a family with one EV and one plug-in hybrid, or two pure EVs, you no longer need to unplug and re-plug every time – just leave each connector plugged into its car, and switch charging via a selector or scheduled function. Another dual-head design (Y-split) allows one charging station to serve two vehicles alternately without repeated plugging. It’s ideal for two-EV households sharing one charger.
Buying tips:
One EV → single-head is sufficient, cost-effective.
Two EVs with staggered schedules (e.g., different commute times) → dual-head reduces wear on plugs and improves convenience.
Planning a second EV soon → choose a charger that supports dual-head or has an extra port.
Note: dual-head is typically 30-50% more expensive than single-head. Make sure the charger’s output power can cover both vehicles’ needs (otherwise charging speed halves when alternating). Home users should prioritize dual-head products with smart switching to avoid overloading.
